Penguin Random House, one of the world's largest book publishers, has taken a significant step by deciding to include warnings in its books prohibiting the use of their content for the purpose of training AI models. This move by the publishing house addresses the concern of potential misuse of the copyrighted text by tech companies who chose to train their large language models (LLMs). Tech companies rely on these large amount of written content to make generative AI tools (genAI) work as welll as possible, sometimes risking violations of copyright laws.

Penguin Random House’s decision ensures that the literary content published by it will not be misused. According to The Bookseller, the AI warning will not only be printed on new releases but also on the reprints of the older titles.
